Ron Museum

Taipei City, Taiwan

Once a humble bento shop quietly serving its neighbourhood, the space has been gently reimagined as the Ron Museum—an ode to time, craft, and memory. Over sixty years of heritage continue through daily rituals: hand-prepared ingredients, fresh sugar water made each morning, and a flavour that lingers unchanged across generations. The transformation, in collaboration with Studio Znzo, honours the spirit of “traditional taste” through a contemporary material language. Salvaged wooden doors from dismantled homes were reworked into the entryway and furniture, while redesigned windows echo the rhythm of classic Japanese casement frames. A courtyard table, crafted from reclaimed cypress, was sanded and repainted—its patina carrying stories from past lives into the present. Natural textures ground the space: rice husk plaster softens the walls; cabinetry reveals the irregular beauty of timber grains; a blackened wood wool ceiling absorbs light with quiet warmth. In the outdoor seating area, the Riyar Light by Taiwanese brand Kamaro’an floats like a suspended gesture—its handwoven palm fibres tracing lines of light and shadow. Echoing the surrounding banyan tree and the stillness of the street, the piece anchors the space in a continuity of craft. Nothing is decorative; every element breathes with quiet intent.
