In the humid, verdant landscape of Yilan, architecture must do more than shelter; it must negotiate. We conceived this residence not as a fortress against the rain, but as a permeable vessel that invites the elements into the daily ritual of living. The core of the home is the courtyard—a "lung" that breathes light and air into the interior. By dissolving the boundaries between the living quarters and the open sky, we allow the atmosphere of Yilan to permeate the space. The rhythm of falling rain and the shifting grey light become integral parts of the interior experience, framing nature as a living canvas that changes with the hour. To anchor this ethereal connection, we turned to materials with inherent warmth and memory. The harshness of modern construction is softened by honeyed timber joinery and tactile, mineral-washed walls. These surfaces do not just reflect light; they absorb it, creating a diffused, haptic glow that feels organic and grounded. This is a space of quiet oscillation between the exposure to nature and the comfort of the enclosure. It is a home that asks us to slow down, to listen to the weather, and to find a profound sense of balance within the damp, poetic beauty of the region.
